Title: Changing the World: The Entrepreneur and Humanitarian Project
(This is a two hour session: 1 and 2)
Presenters: Carol Herrington, Chris Lasher, Michelle Dutkowsky, 4th grade team, Hillside Elementary School, Niskayuna Central Schools
Abstract: Learn how to use a multi-disciplinary approach to teach students about economics, entrepreneurship, and humanitarianism. Students obtain and retain information best when they experience integrated learning across different subject areas. In our Entrepreneur and Humanitarian project students become entrepreneurs, form businesses with product ideas, market their product, and learn how they can use their knowledge and skills to change the world as humanitarians.
Audience: Classroom Teachers in grades 3-6 or higher
Session Outcome(s): Participants will experience and be provided with a ready-to-implement cross-disciplinary unit that takes the concept of economics out of the classroom and shows students a real-world application of banking, supply/demand, entrepreneurship and humanitarianism.

Title: Make Room in Your Day for Social Studies:
Primary Documents are Key to Covering the Standards and C3 Framework
Presenter(s): Dr. Kristi Fragnoli, Professor of Teacher Education, College of Saint Rose
Abstract: How can you use primary documents to teach CCS/Next Generation skills? Come and explore various primary documents, along with instructional strategies to incorporate these informational texts into the classroom. In this practical session teachers will be guided in how to identify primary documents, design instructional experiences, assist students in analysis. Participants will leave with multiple samples of primary documents
Audience: Classroom teachers of grades 7-12
Session Outcome(s): Participants will leave session knowing how to find primary documents, apply historical analysis, align Common Core skills/Next Generation Standards with historical documents, align historical analysis with C3 Inquiry Framework. Additionally, participants will leave with multiple samples.

Title: Engaging English Language Learners In the K-12 Classrooms
Presenter(s): Christina Zontini, ENL Teacher, Albany City Schools
Abstract: With the rapid increase of English Language Learner (ELLs) in our schools, teachers need new and exciting ways to engage these students in the different subject areas. This session will provide teachers with strategies and tools that can be implemented across all subject areas that will allow ELLs to be engaged and participate within the learning. These strategies will allow teachers to differentiate materials while engaging all proficiency levels within their classrooms.
Audience: All teachers who work with students identified as ELL
Session Outcome(s): Teachers will be given and experience many strategies that will help engage their English Language Learners and allow them to demonstrate their understanding of the material.

Title: Handle with Care-Creating Trauma Sensitive Education
Presenter(s): Annie Birchak (Schenectady City Schools, Retired)
Abstract: School professionals are increasingly aware of the impact of trauma on educational achievement and emotional well-being. This presentation will discuss the Adverse Childhood Experiences Survey and how professionals can change their way of supporting children exposed to trauma.
Audience: Teachers, Counselors, School Administrators, School Psychologists, Speech and Language Pathologists, School Social Workers
